Usability and mobile devices

IT Wales has written a short article on usability guidelines for websites on mobile devices.  The seven guiding principles include:

  1. Meet users’ needs quickly;
  2. Don’t repeat the navigation on every page;
  3. Clearly distinguish selected items;
  4. Make user input as simple as possible;
  5. Only show essential information;
  6. Place basic browsing controls on the page;
  7. Design mobile-friendly page layouts.

Rosenfeld Media have announced that Kevin Brooks and Whitney Quesenbery will be producing a new guide ‘Storytelling for User Experience Design’.  Storytelling is one of the most important skills of a researcher, as storytelling helps researchers to communicate their findings with project and client teams.

Using patient stories to improve quality of care

Nursing Times has published an article which looks are using ‘patient stories’ to help identify processes of hospital care which require quality or clinical redesign.  The paper commented that patients and their families should be included in the ‘co-design’ of care.

Nova Spivack

The Daily Telegraph has an interesting article on Nova Spivack, the founder of Radar Networks who have launched Twine.com a new bookmarking and social networking site (in the beta phase at the moment). Radar Networks have attracted approximately $20 million of funding to date from backers such as Paul Allen.
